The controversy following the Dilbert creator's incendiary comments is a barometer for how we're not hearing each other. But can it help us get back on track? My thoughts...
"People who’ve never felt like they can automatically fall back on being taken seriously — being viewed as full human beings — don’t actually know what it’s like to live with that kind of psychic cushion around them."
I've been wanting to make that point for years, so I'm glad to see that it landed. Thanks for saying so. What I've always said is "If you don't feel like a full person, I couldn't help you feel that way even if I >wanted< to. No one can >give< that to anyone else, regardless of whether it's even another person's responsibility." So much of this stuff is about weaponizing a kind of stasis: "I'm stuck, therefore my only recourse is to grate on people who I'm now authorized to deem as 'more powerful' than I am." Blech. What a horrendous prescription for living that benefits absolutely NO ONE - least of all the people who get sucked into the spiral of perpetual victimization.
we achieve authenticity by living authentically. those whose lives are mediated by the magic rectangle are easy prey for manipulation. like tessa says, the physical world is the only one we know https://tessafightsrobots.com/tessa-lena/physical-world/

some old divide-and-conquer strategies never die.
